Uno de los festivales que están ganado mucha importancia en el año cinematográfico es el de Toronto. Las productoras esperan a que se celebre para tantear como son acogidas las películas que ellos creen que pueden dar guerra en las nominaciones al Oscar o premios importantes.
Además es diferente a todos los demás festivales porque no tiene premios de un urado ni de la crítica sino que es el público el que decide a las películas ganadoras.
Películas como "The king's speech", "Slumdog millionaire", "Wo hu cang long" (Tigre y dragón), "Precious", "La vita é bella" o "American beauty" dieron sus primeros pasos que luego se tranformarían en nominaciones y premios Oscar.
